We are seeking an experienced and innovative Retail Buyer to join our Art, Craft & Hobby Department. This role is crucial in selecting and sourcing products that meet our customers' needs and preferences. You will be responsible for ensuring our product range is competitive, high-quality, and aligned with current trends.

 

What You Will Be Doing

  • Develop and manage the sub-department plan in alignment with the departmental strategic plan.
  • Source and develop products that meet company and departmental strategies.
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to determine pricing strategies and evaluate product direction.
  • Ensure all purchased goods comply with relevant legislation, legal requirements, and company standards.
  • Achieve profitability targets, including sales growth and gross margin.
  • Manage inventory and stock flow in collaboration with the planning team.
  • Create and deliver marketing plans to drive business growth.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with vendors.
  • Coach and develop Buyer Assistant
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.

  • Understands end consumers and builds a product range with customer needs in mind.

  • Actively seeks and uses recommendations to improve purchasing decisions.
  • Manages vendor relationships with a high level of communication to deliver mutually successful outcomes.
  • Organizes own and others’ time effectively, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within Spotlight.

 

 

About You:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a category manager or buyer.
  • A degree in merchandise buying or business is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment with shifting priorities.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • A data-driven approach, with strong attention to detail and a knack for problem-solving.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and delivering outstanding results.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage supplier relationships.
  • A genuine passion for products.
  • An interest or background in craft is a plus.
